Warranty Worries: My AC Gave Out!
So your AC gave out, huh? Although the ground may not actually be hot enough to fry an egg here in Arizona, it can certainly feel like it and the last thing you want is to be caught without cooling as summer approaches. Fortunately, most manufacturers offer 5 to 10-year limited air conditioner warranties.
To figure out if you are covered, follow our expert’s tips!
Am I Covered?
- Pull out the old filing cabinet and see if you can find the initial documents and manuals the installation folks gave you. The warranty information should be highlighted, along with contact information. However, many manufacturers require you to “register” your unit after installation within a certain period of time. If you did not, your warranty is most likely void.
- If the paperwork is long gone, you can also look up the manufacturer online. They will likely have warranty information available. Get your serial number off the outside of your appliance to make sure you qualify.
- Our final advice is to contact the contractor who installed the AC unit. They may be able to provide you with more information.
